About

Dyski Organise supports youth and intergenerational organising for social change across Cornwall.

Our Values

Our work is rooted in reciprocity, resilience, and participatory practice. This is underpinned by prefiguration; emergent, or ‘living as though you are already free’.

Reciprocity

One of our core values is Reciprocity- creating a movement that is interlinked and uplifting. We bring in Dyski – the Kernewek word meaning both ‘to teach’ and ‘to learn’. Through channels of reciprocity we encourage practical solidarity across groups in Kernow and across the world, recognising that we can be in service to one another through our work, rather than in competition or working in siloes. We want to ‘compost’ binaries, instead acknowledging the wholeness of organising for social change, with emotions, education, and action held as equally important.

What this looks like in practice:

  1. Strengthening networks in Cornwall to allow for relationships between groups to flourish, and for information and resources to flow more easily
Resilience

Resilience is a multifunctional approach and practice, employed both in the movement and personal spheres. To be resilient is to reject the boom and bust cycles of organising that leads to urgency, overwhelm, and burnout, instead moving towards a mycelial approach that is connective and regenerative. We seek to embody this principle in both ourselves and the spaces we occupy. This includes interpersonal resilience, with honest communication and understanding of the transformative power of conflict when approached restoratively. All of these processes are embodied and relational, we are not separate from our environment and the movement, we are interconnected. Embodying practices of resilience, in ourselves and our spaces, creates the capacity for transformative change.

Participatory

Participation is the act of empowering people to join movement spaces, this is essential in building communities working to achieve liberation. Actively including new and diverse demographics of people through giving them agency in decision making, breaks down echo-chambers and create more informed decisions, resulting in more resilient groups. In a culture that excludes and oppresses minorities we must actively and structurally plan for participation to allow people to be apart of the movement in a meaningful way.

This includes:

  1. How we structure and run meetings
  2. Where our organising takes place
  3. How new people and perspectives are treated
